Functions of the Commission
THE FUNCTIONS OF CMAC
1. To resolve disputes through conciliation, mediation and arbitration.
2. To conduct, oversee or scrutinize elections or ballots of organizations and
federations.
3. To maintain a database for experts in Industrial Relations or Labour Laws who can
serve as commissioners in conciliation, mediation and arbitration.
4. To advise employees, employers, federations and organizations on dispute
procedures to follow in terms of the IR Act
5. To provide training and research on the objects of the Act, including dispute
resolution, dispute prevention and best employment practices.
6. To advise all parties in the promotion of equal opportunity programmes.
Activities at C.M.A.C
Since its inception the Commission has continued to play an active role in ensuring that labour peace is achieved as it resolves most of the cases that are referred.
